Can anyone tell me what a micro chip looks like, I had my dog done last week and today I noticed something sticking out of his neck, I tried to pull it but its stuck.
Could it be the chip or is it impossible to come out.

A microchip is about a centimetre long, but narrow - the same proportions as a grain of rice, only bigger. It sounds as if it could be the chip wasn't inserted properly - I would revisit the chipper (vet?) to be on the safe side.

Do you know what colour it is, I have tried pulling what bit I can see but its stuck fast.
I dont think it can be anything else.

It was done at our vets last week, what ever it is has just fell out its like a clear plastic casing with red going through and sort of goldy colour something at the end, is this what a chip looks like.

Yep, that's the chip. Keep it safe and take it back to the vet with you when you go. Phone them now and tell them what has happened.

I would ask for another person/vet to do it this time? jackie

Thanks everyone, its a bit of a worry though if I hadnt noticed it I would never have known until I took him for his yearly check, I hope they dont expect me to pay again.

You've paid to have your dog 'permanently identified'. A week isn't permanent in my book!

Yes! Happened to a friend of mine. No problem with getting another one inserted and it has stayed put to date (to the best of our knowledge)!

Happened to me. The microchip co. couldn't give a sh**. The people who did it didn't seem to care less either. Unluckily for me only found out after my dog went missing and it was just lucky that she found her way to my parents house 2 weeks later.
The people who did it said that it was because she had a wooly coat and maybe it didn't go in fully!!! Didn't offer to do it again and up to now I've not had her rechipped!! All my others are though except for my young lad.
Terri, are you taking your kit to Birmingham:d

my kahns(gsd) chip has not come out, but is half way down his front leg. while grooming him one day i felt what i thought could be his chip, so i phoned the vets they said it probably was'nt as it was very rare that they moved!!they scanned him on my asking and yes it was down his leg. i very much hope i am never in a situation where it will be needed but i hope they do check all over the body for these chips, and not in the main neck and back areas.(which i have seen done so many times)

My ridgebacks chip vanished entirely.
We found out by accident as he was scanned as a test for a new piece of equipment and nothing came up. One of my labs was then checked and ping, up it came.
Took him back to the vet who chipped him, who re-tested as they couldn't believe it. Definately no chip.
The Vet contacted the chip company who provided a replacement free of charge & the vet inserted it free too.
