Topic Other Boards / Foo / PC Keyboard - what type of connector
- By Ailsa [gb] Date 06.08.03 09:27 UTC
I want to replace my PC keyboard (it works okay but as I bought the machine second hand it is really yellow and grotty). I have unplugged the keyboard and it has a round connector with 5 pins in the middle. Can anbody tell me what the name of this type of connector is so that I go out and buy the correct keyboard? Failing that I will just have to take the old keyboard with me.

Thanks in advance.

There are two types of plugs fitted to Keyboards, PS2 and AT. The PS2 has 6 pins.

Dont worry too much if you get the wrong one, you can get adapters both ways. I know because at the moment I'm using an AT keyboard in a PS2 machine.

I think it could be an AT socket, I'm sat here now with a converter, 5 pins one end and a ps2 connection on the other.

Thanks for the replies. Turned out to be a AT socket. Electronics shop sold me a PS/2 keyboard and an adaptor to adapt it to AT. So all sorted now.

Thanks again.
