had a phone call friday night from someone who said they had a four month old lab puppy and he had jumped off the settee and slipped on the laminate floor and gone into shock his temperature went up to 160 and he was very poorly the vet said it was probably trauma induced paralysis or similar the owner said they couldnt pay for his treatment and took him home with the dangerous temp and a very sick puppy not moving or anything anyway I told her to get him back to the Vet asap and we would sort the cost out she said she no longer wanted the dog.He is now on a drip in the vets,I dont know much else yet but can this be a warning about laminate flooring

If she is so ready to give up the pup could she be telling the truth about how this incident happened? I have laminate floor and not had any problems with slipping at all.

Laminate floors can be a disaster for hip scores with a young puppy. They might be easy to keep clean but they would worry me sick.

I agree john Ive heard so many people whose dogs have done their cruiciate ligiaments on these type of floors,I would adise people to make sure they have non slip rugs on them.
I would also like to warn people not to get a puppy if they cannot afford the treatment if they are poorly.

I have laminate flooring and have absolutely no problems with it. My 5 month old at the moment, unfortunately is going through the phase of jumping from my chair to the settee and back at the moment, although I'm trying to stop him and luckily I've had no problems, but I can see how this could happen.

I hope the pups OK and keep us up-to-date. Why do people buy them when they can't afford their upkeep

i was going to change over to laminate flooring as my pup as had a few accidents on my carpet and it need replacing but know ive read this i think i'll stick to carpet and just get a carpet shampooer id hate anything to happen to her ive only had her a couple of weeks but i wouldnt be with out her now

We have never had a problem with laminate even when Gus was smaller .
What breed puppy was it as we were always warned never to leave Gus on the sofa alone when he was smaller as they do have a habit of jumping off and can hurt themselves .
I dont understand why they dont want the dog now ??? :(

I have laminate flooring in the living room and conservatory never had a problem with Sal at all.
She runs in and out like a loonatic at times as well, has done since we first got her and touch wood never had a problem.

I dont feel happy at all about how this pup has been abandonded when he needs his owner the most thats why we have stepped in and taken him on ill know tommorow what the verdict is I think the vet said if no improvement he would be PTS

Hi im not impressed ive phoned the vet twice and got no further at all they say they will ring me so when I know something ill report back

Not very impressed with a vet who would release a pup in such a sick condition without trying to work something out with the owner :(
I have laminate flooring with an elderly dog who struggles on it - but just as it is a warning for the dangers of laminate it could also be a warning for the potential dangers of letting your dogs jump onto the furniture. Mine are not allowed to get up on the settees, chairs or anything else.
Hope the poor pup recovers from this.

I can't believe someone could abandon their pup when it needs them most, it's so selfish.As for laminate floors, we've got them and my four labs dive on and off the sofa all the time, i'm going to try and retrain them now.Please let us know how the poor pup is as soon as you know:(

Well 2 more calls to the Vets and no reply they have an automaton answering the phone.
So i dont know how the pup is and if they think they are running our rescue a massive bill up without even so much as a courtesy call they are sadly mistaken

All the dogs I've had have slipped and skidded on smooth floors - after all, that's why they put rubber matting down at ringcraft etc - dogs slip!

the puppy is still unable to walk but ive heard that second hand as the vet is on some other planet.

Hope the poor pup makes a speedy recovery - the owners sound a bit suspect to me! Just a thought for anyone with slippery flooring - I have wooden floors and rugs throughout my flat but with toilet training, the rugs have been lifted and sent for dry cleaning. My pup now slips on the floorboards and my puppy class instructor recommended paw wax - Im hoping to pick some up today and will let you know how I get on with it.

Wonderful update on poor puppy he made a dramatic recovery after being on a thread he has turned round and is on his feet again we are very pleased he is now able to go to a home but still on medication.

Good news about the puppy but what will happen to it now, i am assuming it won't be going back to it's owner?

The owner doesnt want him so a home will be found plus inspite of the shoddy personal treatment (Vets) towards us we had initially they have been happy to land us with the bill for him :(
