my friend has a 13 week old puppy alsation bitch, she is lively and seems healthy, but she looks so skinny, she weights 28 pound, can anyone tell me if this seems about right

Hi I would think that shes slightly underweight has she been wormed regulary and whats she feeding, I have a 16 week old bitch pup that I bred myself and she weighs about 24 kg which is about 46 pounds, my bitch gets arden grange junior and loads of raw meat eg tripe, chicken, lamb etc whats the puppys activity level and general attitide like is she lively or lethargic

I think it sounds about right- provided she's been wormed regularly etc. Three weeks can make a lot of difference at that age, mine always looked skinny but she was a leggy bitch anyway while growing up which made her look worse, like people they can all vary. I'm inclined to think that provided she seems lively and healthy enough and is eating then I wouldn't try to change it:)

hi, thanks for your replies, yes she does eat well, my friend is mixing some chum puppy meat in with her dryed food now, she seems to like this much more, she is active, may be she looks skinny because she is a very leggy pup, all legs and ears at the moment, sue

I've had this problem many times with my shepherds....they're all legs and ears and very skinny.
It drives me mad!! I had my first couple checked out for possible pancreas problems etc, but everything was ok. I've come to the conclusion now, that some sheps are just like that!

If your friends dog is healthy, on a good diet, and has been wormed, I wouldn't worry too much.

My Spanish lad is like this at the moment and he too is all legs!! I've always had chunky pups before but I know from the way he is that he's healthy I have absolutely no worries about him. Keep us updated
