A puppy can't have pups, she shouldn't be allowed to until she's at least two.

There's a lot of hard work and heartbreak at times having pups so I would read up on it as much as possible, speak to the breeder of your dog and don't go into it lightly. Go on search and look at some of the problems that people have had, it's not all easy going, I can assure you!!

Just as little girls are capable of having babies (from about 11 years), so too are young bitch puppies (from about the age of 6 months). However, in both cases it is best to wait until the potential mother is both physically and mentally mature. Just because it is possible doesn't mean it is right.

Also worth adding that puppies cannot be registered with KC from a very young bitch, JG ;), as that obviously affects their saleability and value.

There is a good article in the September issue of your dog that outlines why people breed (good lines, healthy dog and good temperament e.t.c.) and also outlines how much having a litter of puppies can cost. They reckoned between £700 and £930 but could be more depending on circumstances. That is a lot of money, and there seems to be a lot of risks. I've never bred (and don't intend to) but it sounds like something that is not for the inexperienced or faint hearted!
