i have decided to keep my yorkies in for a few days until the tempertures drop a bit ,i also have a dog walker to walk them a few days a week to give me a break ,i usually enjoy dog walking as i look on it as a good bit of exersise for me .i know it gets cooler after 9 pm i would not feel safe going out alone at night ,we have a small garden .2 of them are very are keen they do not realise how hot it is .and sit there staring me out ,ican read there thoughts "when are we going mum"do you think i should take them or stick to my decision as the news says tempertures are going to reach 110
I normally walk before 8am and after 7pm and try to keep them out of the sun during the day - not easy when you have a sunworshipping black dog! You would be ok taking them for a short walk when the hot sun has gone and the pavements are cooler, just a trot around the block or through a cool field would be enough, just so they know they've 'been out;

I would agree with that, go early morning when it's cooler and safer than after dark. Then at least you won't have to put up with the stares!

I take mine out about 8am and 9pm and if they go out in the day they go down the local pool to cool down.they spend the rest of the day in the garden lying in the shade plenty of water available
Had a friend visit yesterday with her dog and we took one of mine as well and went for a walk yesterday afternoon. When we got back the outside temp read just over 40 degrees.
Where we were walking must have been nearly 20 degrees cooler as I only have to go a few yards and we are in the woods and as they drop down it gets cooler and cooler - think I will decamp out there for awhile. Gets a bit muggy when the breeze drops tho'
Cooler today as currently only 32

Personally I am quite lucky as I live about 1 mins walk away from woods, so I take mine out at 7.30am and again at about 5pm because its cool there, I also take them out at about 2pm for a swim in the Lake where I live,
Is there a doggie pool near you where you could go?

My guys are perminaltly wet in weather like this, they have there own pool in the garden, in the shade .
Lovely to see them enjoying the weather instead of suffering.
