We are wanting to enter our second champ show but i'm not sure which classes to enter. My dog is now 12 months old so i was thinking junior bitch but she could also go in special yearling and post grad. Bearing in mind this will only be her second champ show which classes should i enter ? I don't want her to get too bored as the classes are one after the other but on the other hand when i've paid my main entry fee i may aswell enter another class whilst we are there. If i was to enter two of the classes, which would be the best two or should i only enter one class ?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I would stick to Junior Bitch and Special Yearling. I would think three classes one after the other would be too tiring for both of you (don't risk her getting bored) - and I don't know how many entries there are in beagle classes, but in my breed Post Grad is known as the 'graveyard class', where the animals are too old for the age-restricted class, but most aren't good enough to win their way into Limit......PG, both dog and bitch, sometimes have 30 entries in each......

I would go for just 2 classes, I would probable chose Junior and PG in my breed because you can well have hounds that have won 2 CC in the Sp. yearling class and that can be a bit dispriting. But it is up to you really but stick to 2. Have just looked in the catalouge for the Houndshow and in Beagles the entry for sp. yearling was not very high. So if you prefer a class with a low entry then sp. yearling may be the class for you.

Hi Beagle, did you go the the Houndshow at the weekend? If so, how did you get on? I went with my 11 month beagle and although we weren't placed, had a really good day, meeting other 'beagle' people. Which champ show are you thinking of entering next? I find that Willow soon gets bored at the moment, especially in the hot weather.

I didn't get to the Hound show at the weekend. What classes did you enter ? Were there alot of entries ? A champ show is going to be hard for Daisy as the open shows we've been in have had small entries. We are going to Darlington next and then possibly Driffield. I hope the weather cools down a little for then as it is just too hot now. Daisy is just sleeping all the time, certainly not being her usual self.

We entered puppy class of which there were 6 entries (we came 6th!). Who says puppies fidgit - these puppies certainly didn't, which has got me determined to get Willow to stand still on the table - she is still a terrible fidgit. There was a good overall turn out of beagles.
We thought about entering Driffield but it is quite a long way for us to go so have decided against it. I don't know if you know but there are a couple of beagle breed shows coming up in October and November. I can't remember the exact details but I'm sure one is an open show and one a champ show, one of which is at St Helen's. I'll let you know more tomorrow, if you're interested.
Willow doesn't like the hot weather either - I can't get her to walk very lively at all. I don't know how some people manage it!
Hope to see you at future shows.

Personally, with a young dog i would only enter the one class, junior, champ shows can be very tiring for a young dog.
If you think your dog will be okay with another class go for special yearling, but if you are looking to qualify for crufts (which seems to be most peopls aim these days) go for the qualifying classes junior and post grad.
Karen.
