Hi guys!

My little one, Jasper, (a Border Terrier) is now 12 weeks old and is growing in leaps and bounds! (I swear he grows in his sleep!)

Of the changes that im noticing, the most obvious is that his coat appears to be becoming lighter. He was a very dark blue and tan, however he now appears to be turning more grizzle with a large streak of lighter brown appearing along his spine. I don't mind what colour he is because he's such a cutie, but I was just wondering if his coat will keep changing, and if so, when will his true colour be fully announced?

As confused as ever! Buff

I not an expert at all but with my Border Terrier (now a year old) girl you would not believe it was the same dog if you saw a picture of her at 12 weeks. She was so much darker, she is a red grizzle but over time her coat has become much more grizzle and less red.

Its strange how much the colour seems to be changing! I can't find anything in any Border Terrier books or websites about coat colour - very frustrating.

Thanks for your post - good to hear it happens to other BTs too!

What a lovely pup! Morse is black and white merle - whatever that is - and is sprouting a new black spot every day.

It's very difficult to accurately predict the colour of a Border sometimes. Maybe he wasn't a true blue and tan, just very dark. We also had a Jasper until very recently and he got lighter over the years, he stopped changing colour at about 2 and a half..of course they can appear to be a slightly different colour after stripping.
