I have a bitch bull terrier, 1yr and 9 moths old. At 1 year old she had her tail caught in a door. Apart from a yelp and a quick spin all seemed fine, no loss of fur or blood. About 1 month later she took to chasing her tail obsessively and eventually caught it taking the end clean off. After spending what seemed like hours trying to stop the bleeding and spinning and after many phone calls to the vet we took her in. They had to amputate her tail quite a way down as the end of the tail had been badly damaged (died) in the door accident. She still chases her 'stump' furiously at times. She was always a naughty pup (lovably naughty) but her behaviour at times became extreme after the docking especially when we had visitors, displaying aggression when I tried to stop the spinning. She would spin furiously in response to noises or other animals (especially horses) on the telly and outside. I now give her a combination of vallerium and unwind which are herbal drugs every day and this seems to keep the worst away although you do notice soon if forgotten. Long walks tend to make her behaviour worse as does certain types of food. I feed her on Chicken wings mainly with the odd meal of liver and vegetables. I have to watch all scraps as foods like baked beans and dog treats can make her very lively. I tend to give liver cake as a treat. Does any one recognise Matilda's problems.
