hi, i have heard that with kc registered dogs you get 6 weeks free insurance. i just want to know what happens when the six weeks are over? do you have to get your dog insured somewere else or can they do without insurace?

You can choose to take out an insurance policy through KC after the six weeks or take out a policy with someone else .
I would DEFINATELY RECOMMEND taking out insurance as you never know what may happen . They could be attacked by another dog , get run over , have health poblems , swallow a stone ,god forbid but these things DO HAPPEN and for the sake of ten pounds a month or so it is well worth the money . Vets fees are HIGHLY EXPENSIVE !!

not if you are with *healthy pets*. have been informed this morning that after losing my dog and her pups suddenly...that they wont pay out on my claim. aparently because she died of a heart attack this doesnt come under accidental death!!!!!!!!!. so i have been paying £28 per month for s*d all. what a rip off. .

You can continue with the insurance with the KC - or go over to one of the others. When my puppies left home, I gave Pet Plan insurance cover for 6 weeks, and I THINK (but I'm not too sure about this fact - I'm having a senior/blonde moment) that if you register your puppy in your name just as the 6 weeks' free insurance is coming to an end, you can get 6 weeks free insurance from the Kennel Club - but I cannot be certain about this fact - might be worth checking out. I know that Petplan write to the holders of the puppy "cover notes" to invite them to carry on insuring with them.

Believe me - for the first year (at least) it's worth having insurance! After that, maybe putting the same amount away per month in a deposit account might make as much economic sense - but it does depend on how "accident-prone" is your puppy!!

Definately keep your dog insured!!! I've insured my Golden for all of her 14yrs, and never used it once!!! Liberty is now almost 18 months old, and vets bill so far have come to a whopping £900, give or take a pound ot two!!!

I'm pleased I didn't think that just because one dog had never needed the insurance, another wouldn't!!! It's also worth bearing in mind that long term illnesses such as Diabetes or Arthritis can quickly run up thousands of pounds in vets bills. Make sure to read the small print to make sure you're covered!!!

You don't *have to* get insurance but you may regret NOT taking out an insurance policy
especially if your beloved dog gets ill and requires some specialist vet treatment which is
expensive.
Always read the small print, remember you get what you pay for, the cheap policies may seem attractive
short-term, but will they pay out?? You need a for-life policy, which will cover the condition for the
maximum amount allowed on your policy over the dogs lifetime. Quite often the cheaper insurances only pay out
for the first 12 months and when the policy comes up for renewal stop insuring your dog for that condition.
Some are very awkward about paying out at all!! Ask your vet for policies he reccommends, they may advise
which policies not to go for.
Remember that you do have excess (the same as in motor insurances) to pay so you do still have to pay
out some money.
But pet insurance certainly gives me peace of mind with my babies :)
