Hi
Hope someone can answer following question.
What weight should a 17month male Westie be. Prior to castration (1 Month ago) he was 7.9Kg.
I feed him Naturediet lite (one pack a day, split into two meals). He loves it and his digestive problem is better. I can tell he's put weight on but am waiting to get to vets to put him on proper scales.
I would like a rough idea of proper weight so i know if i'm feeding him too much. He also has small amounts of beef jerky as training treats.

HI there,

THe average westie weighs between 16-20 lb , your dog is just over 17 lb so is within the average weight bracket.

Hope this helps.

One of my bitches is 16 lb and my dog is about 23 lb both same height , male is a bit chuckier but he comes from a more chucky line.. whilst my girl comes from a more slender line.

Thanks for reply Pam.
I don't want him to get too chunky. Brothers Scottish Terrier is too heavy (but is trying to slim her down abit)and i think it spoils her walks as she is sitting down or lagging behind constantly. Mind you at 7years she's alot older than Buddy.
Thanks again.

No probs, you will know this probably but I will say it anyway , a Scottie tend to be about few lbs heavier I think it is about 18-22 lbs

BFN Pam :-)

HI budmag, neutered dogs and bitches do tend to put on weight more easily, so its possible that you may need to feed him less now to keep him at the right weight.

Hi Budmag,

The vet will judge whether or not your Westie is trim the same way you can - lightly stroke his sides and if you can just feel his ribs he's okay.

Was it your Westie that had bad colitis before putting him on Naturediet? If so, he would gain weight when his system is back to normal and he is able to digest his food properly. In other words, he is able to absorb more of the nutrients and calories.

Hi Stacey
Buddy was never diagnosed with having colitis but reading other posts he did have similar symptoms. Since being on Naturediet his poo is much firmer with no straining and less frequent. Big success.

Hi Budmag

We have increased Min's Nature diet intake to another carton a day as she has since being on Nature diet she has got an amazing increase in her activity levels and so we have now increased according to how much excercise she is now getting ! There is no stopping her !!

I alway keep an eye on all our girls weight by how they look. We keep a little more weight on during the winter and the summer keep a little weight off.

Glad Buddy is still doing well !
