Topic Dog Boards / General / 49 puppies and 3 kttens seized from van
- By pat [gb] Date 02.08.03 21:32 UTC
A man John Walsh appeared before Stranraer Sheriff Court in Scotland after allegedly bringing 49 puppies of various breeds and 3 kittens from N Ireland into Scotland by ferry. He pleaded not guilty to 4 counts under The Welfare of Animals Transportation Order and The Protection of Animals (Scotland) Act. Walsh of Brampton, Cumbria will appear in Court again on Tuesday and next Friday when the case will be heard.
Although this person sells puppies from and resides at Denton Hall Kennels, Brampton, Cumbria, the premises only in recent weeks aquired a dog breeders licence but not in the name of the accused but his partner Merci Hodge. It will be interesting to see what effect this will have in respect of the business. They also sponser the dogs for sale column in a free ad paper in the North East, some times they have over 15 ads with various telephone numbers offering puppies for sale. Email me please if you know of anyone who has purchased a puppy from this or any other outlet and the puppy was sick or has died. Thank-you.

Someone sent me a copy of the Northumbrian Adtrader There were five ads selling German Shepherds, Boxers (Deliivery can be arranged) Border Collies and a selection of cross puppies from £50 - £150 also homes required for a selection of older dogs from £100 upwards. The owner of Denton kennels is an Irishman.

Now, isn't that weird?? I had a man with the same name and a NI registered van removed by the Gardai from the Ballinasloe Horse Fair last year October for illegally selling pups to un-assuming/ignorant people. I had informed the USPCA but never heard a word back. He had 62 pups in a van and trailer but according to the Irish law that was all I could do...

This type of trade is disgusting. What really can be done to stop it though? Here's a petition that has recently been started for banning the sale of puppies via a third party (presumeably a dealer) which I would have thought could stop a lot of this type of thing.

Hi all,
I live in cumbria & the man in question also advertises in our local paper all the time. I once rang the mobile number & was put through to 10 other mobile numbers without an answer.
Makes me sick.
