How is it possible to have 3 dogs, yes 3, and be burgled in the early hours? I am so angry!!

Some nasty piece of work entered MY house through the bathroom window, and has stolen my hubby's rucksack with all his work stuff in it and they have taken my purse from the kitchen side

which contained my whole life, from my dentist appointment card , credit card, driving licence MOT and insurance documents, literally my whole life was in that purse. ( not angry with my dogs you understand :) ) but one little bark would have been nice, if you know what I mean :) I have come to the conclusion that retrievers do not make good guard dogs, but they make great best friends :) I just thank my lucky stars that they did not take my dogs. OK RANT over, thanks for listening, Sarah :D

Oh Sarah, I understand completely, how frustrating for you. I was burgled 7 years ago this very weekend, no dogs at the time, but it's a pretty sh***y thing to happen in any case. In my case I was due to get Bailey(Irish Setter) the next weekend and I had my puppy money hidden, luckily it wasn't found, but we lost alot of other things, including confidence. Damn the bas****s.
Regards Dawn R.

I had four, although I was at work at the time so I'm sure that they barked. Funny how nobody heard anything though. The s**** that did it totally wrecked the place.
18 months on looks like they are still ruining my life as one of the dogs was pregnant at 5 weeks and one of the owners has problems with one of the pups which the vet thinks is related to the trauma!!!
I can see why people retaliate when a house is broken into. These people just don't realise the stress that they cause. I'm already skinny but I've lost 2 stone since it happened and most of that I lost in the 3 weeks afterwards!!

well you have both made me feel quite guilty now, fortunately for me they didnt take much and they havent trashed the place, you have both made me realise how lucky I have been :) I am so sorry if I have opened old wounds :( I have been wondering if hubby getting up for work disturbed them at 6.00am. who knows!! So what breeds do make the best guard dogs then? any suggestions as I am thinking of investing in one :D Sarah
Hi Sarah
Sorry to hear about your burglary, it is a real shock to the system isn't it.
Friends with dogs were burgled and the dogs were doped - this particular gang put food though letter box, or broke in and fed it to dogs before they started "work". Are your lot (and you of course) okay?
Christine

Very sorry to hear, but the main thing is that u, hubby and dogs are ok and still alive and kicking. Those are only possesions I know a huge loss I would be devistated as well, but those can be replaced where a life can not. Sorry again :(
My Boston Terriers bark at everything and anything that moves, even the kenneled ones. My mom was broken into 3 times, first her garage, then her house twice. We lived one house away from her. She had almost everything of value taken, they used a crow bar to get in the last time. I think because of my dogs people think twice and now since we moved we put in alarm system for when the dogs and us are not home :)
ttfn :)

Thanks for your concern :) the dogs are fine and show no signs of being druged in any way. They do have the run of the house all the time sometimes they sleep downstairs sometimes up. It is quite scary to think that someone has entered our home whilst we slept, and it is bothering me more as the day goes on :( But thankfully we are all fine and like you say the things that were taken are replaceable to a degree, except one Item I cannot replace, I carried my old dogs ID tag in my purse. dont know why, just did not want to part with it at the time. Dont need the tag to remember him and I do still have his collar ( couldnt part with that either) Thanks to everyone for your sympathy its much appreciated. Sarah :)

So sorry to hear that... I think one os the best protection breeds is the Belgian Malanois...But then again, I'm biased, :D.

Sorry to hear your news
Get a good house alarm. Best advice I can give.
But I don't think in this day and age any dog is enough security. As has been already said people drug dogs. And in my local park a Rotty was found after being stabbed with a 6" knife it was still in his shoulder.
I have a Stafford and she barks, and is quite a good watchdog (strange for a Staff I know).
But having been burgled. My sympathies are with you. But think positive if they can get in Buckingham palace what chance do we stand ;)

hi there, sorry to hear about the burglary..I know exactly what you are going through.
8 years ago we were burgled whilst we were sleeping in our beds. Only had the one dog then, my lovely, gorgeous, loyal Tess...a GSD, slight cross breed (if there is such a thing..lol) The barstools did get manage to get away with a couple of the valueable's,..tv..vcr, but my Tess chased them off. I remember wakening to hear her barking like crazy, and hearing footsteps running through my living room. The poor dog was running upstairs barking at us to wake us, (unfortunately, we'd had a wee drinky that night, so weren't as easy to wake as usual) and running back in living room to chase them off. She did ever so well, I was soo proud of her that I spoilt her rotten for AAGES !! :)
The downside to being burgled whilst you are in your home, is that it takes you ages to get over it, and feel secure again....an "Englishman's home, and castle", come to mind but I was a nervous wreck for months afterwards.
Like has been said previously, we just have to be glad that our dogs were not harmed at all.
And dont be surprised to find yourself listening out for noise's in the night....I know I did.
They caught my burglar, THANK GOD..he'd done a spate of them that night.
Really hope you get over this very quickly, and sorry about your dog's ID tag....that's an awful blow on top of it all.

So sorry to hear about the burglaries you've all had. It happened to us once BGSD (before German Shepherd dogs!!)and it's awful, even if they don't take much, it feels like they've taken everything. It's very stressful, it happened to us when my brother and I were young...just before christmas, they took our presents and everything the bar-stewards. We could deal with that....what we couldn't deal with, and Mom couldn't deal with, was knowing that they'd gone through everything....they'd taken away our privacy...they basically took away our lives for a few months.
Anyway....about dogs...lol...I have to say, that in my opinion, GSD's are the best guards...apart from making great pets, they have a natural guarding instinct, and most will protect their families and their homes.
I'd pity anyone who tried to get in here with my 5 GSD's!! Mind you, if I ever hear a strange noise, I leave the dogs locked in, and I go and find out what it is on my own!!!! I'm terrified of anything happening to them.
Talk about keeping a dog and barking yourself!!!
Take care

Thanks for all your replies :) yes I am up and cant sleep  I wonder why!!!! and because I cant sleep the dogs are unsettled, pacing obout they are wanting me to go to bed. well I have been to bed and its no good cant sleep so here I am, wide awake and every noise I hear is making me more jumpier by the minute. I am not usually a nervous person and have always felt really safe in my home, but tonight is very different, and the thought of someone getting in again fills me with horror. so is there anybody else up, if so would you like to keep me company for a bit? thanks again everyone :) Sarah

lol Lisa :D.........but with 5 GSD I really don't think you would have anything to worry about. One look at that little, or rather large lot, and any burglar would be off like a shot :D
