Hey everyone, I just stumbled across this site trying to research what could have been wrong with my puppy. I hope that maybe someone can give me an idea of what it was. We just took in a black lab, we found out these people were gonna have it put down cause they didn't want it and got stuck with it. We have had her a couple of weeks and were getting ready to take her in for her shots. She was a very hyper, and loving puppy. She was fine over the weekend and then suddenly stopped eating yesterday and started laying around, she was throwing up a clear mucus like substance. Her right front paw was really shaky when she stood and she kept pulling it up. We checked it over thinking she might have been bit or something but couldn't find anything wrong with it. We were watching the yard for signs of Parvo virus, but she never had a bowel movement. We kept giving her water and by last night she was walking around and acting better. Then today she was acting like she felt better so we thought maybe she was just overheated yesterday since we live in New Mexico and it has been really hot. I heard something around 5:00 tonight while I was cooking supper and when I went outside to check on her she was laying there again crying. Her breathing was very shallow and she started using the bathroom on herself and started smelling like a dead animal. Within the hour she passed away. Does anyone recognize the symptoms and know what could have happened.

My thoughts are with you. So sad....
I bet with hindsight you wish you had taken your puppy to the vets asap. Thing is with dogs they cant tell us whats wrong, therefore its always better to get them checked at the first sign of them acting a little different.
I hope someone on here comes up with some answers for you. I know you mentioned the heat, its possible the puppy could of died from heat stroke.

I am so sorry the puppy died
The vomiting was probably an infection such as enteritis,But You should not have waited for the puppy to get better himself he was sick and so should have been taken to the vet at once.
I suppose nothing is to be gained now by chewing you up about it ,you probably feel quilty enough as it is.
So all I can say is you have learned the hard way and will know better next time.
