i have a resident dog that ive had for 3yrs, that NEVER pooped in the house until new puppy been living there 1 month. (6 months old) came along. puppy is a chow mix and seems headstrong where as resident dog is more laid back. I even caught her 2 days ago. he has just started doing this. its odd and he almost acts intimidated by puppy now. he is healthy and eats normally.

also resident dog always went out back to do her business, now he acts scared to go outside and wont walk in the back yard, especially if puppy is outside.

now puppy has been living here 2 months, and resident dogs eliminating habits seem to be getting worse. puppy is real headstrong toward resident dog. puppy is now bigger than resident dog. they seem to get along and do play alot. i always thought deep down that resident dog seemed like a one person dog who likes to be the center of attention.

how do i get rid of smell of urine in the house? i tried hand-held deep cleaning machines and i can still smell it.

whats going on? please help!!!

Your older dog is upset because the puppy is more headstrong and is clearly trying to take on the role of alpha male. You firstly need to make the dogs understand than neither of them are the alpha male, you are. When you get up in the morning completely ignore the dogs for a full 5 minutes, it's important that you must not make eye contact with them, if they jump up on you just gently push them away. Then, after the 5 minutes call the dogs to you (make sure they come to you, don't go to them) give them a small treat and praise them. Do this after every time you are seperated, this is very important in establishing leadership of the pack. Also when playing with the dogs make it on your terms, don't let them bring the toys and demand to play. If they bring the toys back when thrown reward them, if they don't simply ignore them. They will soon make the connection with good bahaviour and treats and bad behaviour and being ignored. If they tend to jump all over visitors to your home get them to also completely ingnore the dog for the first 5 minutes, you will notice the difference. Doing all this will establish you as leader and not your new puppy. Watch you older dog and whenever he does his business outside reward him with a treat and praise him, if he has an accident clean it up but don't shout at him, dogs don't understand shouting and it will just make him more anxious. Give him lots of praise for getting it right and he'll get the message eventually. Concentrate on times when he is likely to go the toilet, like when he gets up in the morning or after a nap, at these times take him outside and wait for him to do his business, when he does give him a treat and praise him. I know it's tempting to fuss over a new puppy but you must give them equal attention at all times. The best thing to use for cleaning the mess is biological soap power, especially for cleaning up poo as it is one of the few things that will get rid of the smell! Hope this helps :)
