We keep our dogs in the back at night, however, latley we have had some troubles from one of them. He has started to roll in poo, we are not sure if its his or one of the other dogs, but every couple of days he turns up with new poo. It pretty horrible, and a bit of a pain having to wash him every other morning. I heard that feading garlic to them whould have some effect, but it hasn't from what I've seen. Does anyone have any advice on how to stop this, or why he his doing it?

Has this only started recently? Has anything else changed in the dogs life or routine around the time the problem started? How is his relationship with the other dogs?
Rolling in horrible things is generally very hard to prevent, if you are there you could teach a good 'leave' command, but that's useless if it happens at night!
Do you think the dog gets enough exercise and mental stimulation? If a dog is bored it will invent new games to play and things to do, rolling in poo might be your dogs way! If you think that might be the case with your dog, you could put a treat ball in the yard with him at night which would keep him occupied, but obviously that's not a replacement for exercise.
I know this sounds a bit obvious, but try to make sure there isn't anything for him to roll in by picking up his 'deposits' as soon as possible.

I can't think of anything that's changed, apart perhaps for him not seeing a freind of his in a few days. It is not a regular thing either, infact, since this was posted, he hasn't done it again. I am not 100% sure that it is infact dog dirt he's rolling in either. There are horse feilds behind the house and it is possiable he is going in there. I went on a cleaning spree of the back and all the poos were dry and unbroken, apart from the odd one that caught the unwary travler underfoot.
It could well be that he was not getting enough mental or physical stimulation. The night I posted this I made a toy from a peice of rope with a monkey fist knot on the end of it. It's basicly a ball on a rope, but its a supurb toy, and pretty much unbrakable, I highly suggest it, anyway, I have played with each of the dogs with this for half an hour a day, still dosn't wear him out, that dog has boundless energy.
