My non doggy friend called last night to say her friend, who has never had a dog before had bought a 6 wk old pup from a breeder she found on the KC website, the breeder let her take the pup at 6 wks because she had told him/her that the traffic would be bad the next weekend due to the Robbie Williams concert (!!) She had also told him/her that the puppy would be left for 7 hours a day - the breeder did kindly sell her a cage for £90.

Am I right in saying this doesn't sound right?

My friend said she already is getting a bit stressed - she is very house proud - and asked if she could give her my number. Who would be best to get her in contact with for help or if she can't cope? I think she is in the Stevenage/Hitchin area (North Herts)

Thanks for listening

Hayley

She should be encouraged to go back to the breeder. It could well be that she took the breeder in, and the bereeder is one that will take responsibility for the puppy.

If the breeder doesn't want to know then I suppose rescue yet again wil need to pick up the pieces.

If the pup is going to be discarded then th4e sooner the better in my opinion, as it will still be easily homed and rehabilitated.

Hayley.,

She should contact the breeder. If the breeder is a good breeder she would rather have the puppy back, and generally most good breeders have a list.

I heard today of a puppy coming back to its breeder but due to the distance another show breeder offered to collect the puppy , and then bring it to the breeder as they would be at a show a couple of days later. That is what I call nice and good teamwork.

Sorry not to have replied earlier, I've been out all day, and most of the night!

I'm pretty sure she gave the breeder all the info about not having had a dog before, and that she is at work for 7 hours a day - hopefully she will call me (or my friend will) and I can find out a little more and point her in the right direction, I agree the breeder is the way to go if they are reputable, but how is the lay person to know? I know the town she got him from, and that he advertised on the KC website, but that is all.

Anyway, hopefully I will know more over the weekend, it is just weighing down my mind at the moment

Thanks all

Hayley
