Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Asking to go out

Hi, our 15 week old pup is doing very well on the house training front. He goes outside by himself when the door is open ( we still stand in the kitchen and watch so we are ready to praise and treat). The problem comes when the door is shut, he gives absolutely no indication that he wants to go i.e. go to the back door, sniffing, circling etc, he just goes on the carpet in the lounge. How can we get him to "ask" to go out? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Until he has got the message completely , you need to TAKE him outside rather than let him wander out on his own. When he performs outside , praise him each time. If he makes an error and pees inside just ignore him. Eventually he will realise that going outside is the thing to do and begin asking to go out
