Topic Other Boards / Foo / RAC v AA ?

Hi all,

After travelling up to Leeds alone this weekend, I suddenly thought "Oh dear what if I break down in this field". I had stayed to see Best in Show and when I returned to the car, there were only about three left in this huge field. I decided I should join either the AA or RAC. Any recommendations? I'm sure there are lots of you who travel the country. :)

No experience of RAC I'm afraid but I am with AA and they have always been good . I have relay , homestart and the third one ( eek cant think of the name ) !!
They always come quickly especially when you say you are a female on your own or you have children with you . The men are always really helpful and polite . They have been to fix flat battery , keys locked in the car , handbrake that wouldnt release and an idler valve that was being a pain !! :)

I was a member of the RAC for years and there were years when I didn't call them out at all. Then one year I had a bad time with the car and called them out three times, only to be told when my renewal came up that they would be doubling my fees :( I rang them and asked if they took into account the years I hadn't used them - but no. Needless to say, I cancelled my membership. This was about 8 years ago, so hopefully they've changed their policy now!

I have heard that most of them will refuse you membership if you use them more than 6 times in 12 months:(
I used them 4 times within a VERY short space of time and they havent doubled my fee or cancelled :)

Green Flag is more competitive in price, as long as you pitifully tell them you are a woman all alone they will soon come and rescue you (even if big strong bloke sat next to you!). check with your car deal though, lots of companies now offer 3 years road side assistance on new cars without you even realising it. AA is expensive compared to the others though.

Is it really ? My membership is up for renewal at end of August- time to go checking out the competition me thinks ;)

We're with the AA, but we also have our car insurance with them so we get a good deal having both
