hi,i have a 13 week old japanese akita-inu and today i took her out on the lead for the first time.it was only a short 5 minute walk round the corner and back again, but everyone that she seen who walked past us she tried to jump all over them.she also seemed very wary of any traffic that passed us.i just wanted to ask if all this was normal behavior or if i am doing something wrong.any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

Hi Billybob
We just gave our lab lots and lots of praise when he first met traffic and the reassurance really seemed to work. You are right to keep the walks to short times to start off with, hopefully you will have kids near you who ask if it's okay if they can pet your dog, I found that I've had to ask them to stop it because Tyler is getting conditioned into thinking everytime a kid comes near it's playtime.
Good luck
thanks for that,i had her out tonight again and she done a bit better, there were a few kids who stopped us and asked if it was ok to stroke her,she loved it and started to jump about a bit.i am taking her to puppy class from next wednesday so that she can meet other pups.

Hi Billybob
I have just started puppy classes, really enjoyed it although Molly my Bichon was a little shy at time she generally enjoyed it, good luck. Molly has been going out for 2 weeks now, yours will get more confident, Molly is now fasinated by cars she sits down & watches as if she is watching tennis, head going from side to side, quite comical. Monty has been out for 3 walks now. I have put him on an extended lead so he can sniff as long as he wants :)
When he see's a car, he just looks at it then wants to go follow it :)
Not sure about bicycles though..
