Topic Dog Boards / Health / Yellow Bile/Appetite Problem/CHLOE??
- By cissy Date 30.07.03 09:43 UTC
Hi
I've read the posts on these subjects but would appreciate some clarification. My dog is fed twice a day Nature Diet with a bit of Burns mixed in and he has lapped it up for about 7 months now. I changed him from Hills as he really had no interest in it. At the same time I also started walking him before eating and this also improved his appetite.

For a few days now he has had no interest in the ND or Burns food but will accept a few treats during the day [though not at mealtimes]. He used to wait patiently for his food but now won't even come into the kitchen to be fed when I call him.

Eventually he slopes in and will eat all of it however on a few occasions he hasn't bothered so then I take the dish away after 10 mins and he throws up the yellow bile. His poos are fine and he isn't showing any other signs of illness. However, can anyone help explain this - I don't really want to keep removing the bowl and having him throw up as surely all that bile is very acidic [there is quite a lot of it - maybe 2 hurls worth].

CHLOE - I saw that you are using the Venison Burns and this is what I have at the moment - is it poss that this one is just too rich for an otherwise fit little corgi?

Would really appreciate help
thanks

Hi Cissy

Hmmm.. maybe... Personally I would leave him for about 24 hours and then introduce the ND back... see how he gets on with that for a day or so...then try the Burns - but I wouldn't feed him both together, I'd give ND for breakfast and Burns for dinner....

It might also be worth getting him checked out at the vet.

Re the Burns Venison - it took mine about 2/3 days to settle on it - but they absolutely love it so it has been worth all the...er...runnyness in the back garden :)

thanks for the quick response!. He really liked the Venison Burns initially. I tried ditching it for awhile but have not tried the 24 hour gap so will try that. I try not to overdo the Burns - about 10 pieces only. He rejects it by itself so in desperation I had been mixing it in - as even those few pieces made such a difference to his coat. I thought I had it all sussed until now.
.
I will also go to vet - he is due a vax anyway.
thanks

Try mixing a little scrambled egg in

And soak it first.... although mine prefer it still a little bit warm and not too mushy

I also leave it down for them to graze at over a couple of hours - I sometimes think it must be quite difficult to eat a full bowl of dried food, even when soaked!

hmm - that working from home fantasy I mentioned - I'm going to put Lascaux in an apron and help him write a dog cook book!

Trouble is, it would be full of salmon and fillet steak :)
