I have a 8 month Giant Schnauzer. Since he was clipped last week, his skin has become very irritated and scabby especially under his chin and between his legs. He has always had quite delicate skin but now he is very inflamed and fed-up. I have tried putting cod liver oil in his food but so far no better. Can anybody suggest anything. Thanks!

It sounds like he has clipper rash.
It will go down, and it is quite common. Bathe the scabby bits with warm salt water twice a day and make sure you DRY it thoroughly or you may create a pyoderma.
Dont worry, this is very common in clipped dogs.

Tell your groomer and if it happens again, change to another. There is no excuse for clipper rash - just unskilled operator!!

I agree with Val, he shouldn't be getting clipper rash if they're being careful enough.

You could try a little Nivea After Shave Balm (Sensitive) on one of the areas, its very soothing and slightly antiseptic. I was told to use this if my bedlington gets a rash on his ears and throat after clipping (they're clipped very, very close) and to prevent dryness after he's bathed. My husband also uses it and says its very soothing after a shave :D

No, absolutely, you shouldnt get it from groomers..but what I was saying was that thats what it sounded like and it can happen during clipping. Often at the vets, If they are clipping up an area for whatever reason, slight clipper rash. By saying it was common I meant for her not to worry as it isnt serious.
But, you are absolutely right Val and Dill..it shouuldnt have happened and DEFFINATLY talk to the groomer about it.

You're right of course :)
It might be that he's just got very, very sensitive skin - like my hubby :)

And of course dogs do scratch, if he scratches the clipped part with newly clipped nails this could start up a reaction.

Yes, my other half has sensitive skin too...:)
bless them.

But, back to the clipper rash..I dont think you have anything to worry about..but as Dill said, ..if he scratches, it will make it worse...so just keep bathing it and after a few days it will have gone down.
