Want to show my bitch in veteran at the Hound Show next Saturday and had started to groom her today toward that end. And horror I find that she has a large yellow stain on her left flank where the (this is the embarrassing bit) dogs (males) pee on her. I knew they did this and as she does not smell I took no notice.
What I want to know is if I bath her tomorrow, the last chance I have before Sat, will shampoo remove it, I have no time to get anything special in so over to you do I need to use anything other than normal shampoo to remove it.

you could try to use fairy liquid on the stained area, maybe leave to sit in the coat for a little while - until almost dry then rinse VERY well.
What breed?
Good luck

Elkhound which it is why I have not come across this problem before. They have to have 3 to 4 days longer if pos. between a bath and showing else the coat is the wrong texture. I have dog shampoo and spirit shampoo but nothing else, would not want to damage her skin but would like to remove the stain. Wondered if WHWT or Sami people would have an answer, but I will try washing up liquid and crossed fingers.

Hi Jackie,
there are various products available for stain removal, which work with varying degrees of success, but I dont hink you have time to get any mail ordered to you in time. The fairy liquid trick does work, to some extent, but you MUST use the real thing, not just any washing up liquid, and only use the original green, not the purple one or any other special edition colours! Apply to dry coat, and leave for at least 10 mins, then work into lather with little water and massage through and rinse very well. This works on parti american cockers, but is noot recomended for frequent use. There is a wonder poduct available in the USA and some European suppliers which is heat activated and works using enzymesA lot of poodle people swear by it but it is not yet on sale over here, although I think some is on its way.
Hope the fairy works
bye

Will have to go shopping for some Fairy, only have Persil. Thanks to both of you never had this problem before and if I do get it out I will have to watch my boys revolting habbits but I am wondering why it is suddenly leaving a stain. Don't know if one of the boys has very strong colour urine or if the bitch has a coat problem. Before the 'water' has just run off, may be it is becaused she is now spayed, will have to give her a spray with one of the waterproof sprays you use on tents. :)
Jackie I have in the past used Ariel on the white underside of an ESS to remove urine stains from the feathering, I wet the coat and then work in the Ariel powder until it is a paste on the stained part(avoiding it touching the skin) leave for about 10 minutes and then wash off preferably with a shower so that yet again it doesn't touch the skin.

Well, it appears that there is no Fairy Liquid original green in Lincolnshire, any other flavour you like to name but not the green stuff. So I have rubbed neat shampoo into the coat and left it for a while and then did a normal shampoo. Not sure if it has worked as she is still wet and will be till the morning. Would not mind betting that she will have a sparkling bright coat with a yellow patch that looks worse than ever.
Just have to show her with the other side to the judge and hope it is not noticed.
If it's any consolation I once showed my 11 month old pup with a great huge purple stripe down the one white bit of her show side (and at that point she refused to be shown the other way round)! About 2 minutes before we went into the ring she had sat on an exploded biro that someone had kindly (NOT) dropped on the ground beside the ring (needless to say I wanted to strangle said person). I was very new to showing, I was mortified, but I brought her in anyway!
People were great and came to my aid with all sorts of cleaning aids while other dogs were being looked at. The judge was very understanding. I did manage to get it cleaned of 90% by the time it was our turn on the table.
Somehow I think I'd have preferred a nice yellow stain!

Oh goodness Wendy, what an indelible problem. At least with mine it is not that important but I did not want the judge to think I would put a pissy dog down in front of them.
As it happens a good deal of the stain has gone, all I have to do now is try to persuade her coat to uncurl, oh, the joys of a spayed bitch. Still a nice clean shinny bitch. All I need now is for one of the dogs to roll in the fermenting grass.

WellI will be joining you in Veteran with my bitch who now sports her tail ala worn bottle brush. The one with the missing bit of tail, with the shaved bit partly regrown.

Don't worry about it, thankfully mine is not damaged but she wags it so much that it is now almost straight.
