Can anyone help...? I have recently bought a new puppy (shih tzu) He is adorable however a few things are worrying me.... I picked him up last saturday, on his first visit to vet (tuesday) it was found that puppy has a bi-lateral inguinal ? hernia. Any info/advice on the condition would be appreciated. Also can anyone advise what paperwork should we have been given by the breeder, as it is we have nothing, told papers would follow, is this usual ? Thanking you in anticipation Ronnie.

I'd get back onto your breeder a) to tell them about the hernias as they will need to be operated on and the chances are they were present at the time of sale (although not ncessarily) and you should have been informed. b) there is no reason why the paperwork should not have been available at the time.
The sooner you call them the better.

if the pup has hernias it will not be able to be bred from,-unless thats now changed as i know there was talk of it,
also unless you signed something to say the papers where to be witheld then you have every right to expect them,
the kennel club will stand by purchasers of pups that have not signed to say theyve had it explained to them that the papers have been withels, also if theres any restrictions in place, did you sign anything when you took the pup?

Hi Ronnie

Congratulations on your new puppy. Bec is right about going back to the breeder about the hernia. As for the paperwork, you should have been given a receipt for your money, conditions of sale, return arrangements, if there are any, should you decide/be unable to keep the dog, diet sheet and vaccination/worming performed to date as a minimum when you took the pup away. It is not unusual for the KC registration not to be through yet, if they have or are to be registered, it depends how soon the breeder sent off the registration, but you should find out from the breeder when they sent it off and when they expect it back and keep asking for it. You would also expect to get the pup's pedigree.

Yes i agree with all the above, but if you were given absolutely no paperwork it sounds as though you have no come back now.
I hope your pup is doing ok and all go"s well

give them a ring and check how its going, i would expect the delay is to do with xmas, new year,

I think the Kennel Club say that they should be back within 28 days. These days they are normally faster than that but Christmas may have affected things. If you haven't heard anything in the next few days I would query it.

I sent my registrations off on the 19th December and had them back 10th Jan so I would give them a ring if there not back next week. Check with your bank and see if they have cashed the cheque then you will at least know if they got them

Thanks you all so much for the replies. I have recontacted the breeder
who has agreed to pay for any necessary surgery etc, unfortunately breeder is not insured so will have to pay out of own pocket,(did also say that would be willing to exchange puppy, but as we already love him so much I didnt want to take that option). Queried the paperwork, was explained that as puppies were bred for show purposes, until decison was reached as to what puppy(ies) were being kept by the breeder, documents were not sent off to K.C.(although this is being done tomorrow ?) I was verbally told re immediate diet, but not for the future. No doubt, I will be posting further queries in a couple of weeks.... Thank you all once again, sure to speak to you soon

ive not heard that one before, i breed hoping to get something for the ring too, i still register them early on and keep the name back ive chosen for myself, wasn't the pup insured at all when you took it, if so it will cover the price of the op, as long as the hernias wheren't already there,
good luck with the pup anyhow, let us know how he comes on.
