after reading the post dose chipping hurt my dog, would you new owners of puppies like your breeder to have the puppies mirco chipped at 8 week before they leave,i did my litter at 8 weeeks and all the new owners were happy for the reason's it was cheaper than the vets, one job less for them to do,the most important one that puppies and young dogs are escape artist so if lost they would return quickly to the owner.
i just like some feed back on this as you all know i just done the course in chipping and after reading the above post for and againt chipping.

Hiya Briedog

I to always have my puppies micro-chipped before they leave me, at least they are as you say documented with a return to address if they ever did escape or worse stolen, as we all know the new owners sometimes even forget to have them done or we'll have it done later :-(. I am one for precaustion than Oops Oh I wished I'd have had puppy done, when its to late :-(

I would be very happy if my breeder microchipped my new pup, after all disastrous things can happen in a very short amount of time

MB had been chipped by the breeder when we got her. Saved us a job !! Moose wasn't and it has taken us two years to get it done !!

The puppies from Hudsons litter were all chipped before they left home ..well worth it IMHO :)

There has been a thread like this running on another forum, and it appeared that there was some conceren that very young pups being chipped ran the risk of the inplant moving and that it was best left until the dogs was full grown on nearing that point in their development.

Terri, run a search on chipping using the facility in the top righthand corner of the forum page. There are many past threads on both micro chipping and tatooing.

I posted on another forum asking if any other breeders had had a similar experience to mine with a litter chipped at 7 wks, not by me as I wasn't qualified at that time.

There were 5 puppies chipped, 3 moved over the left shoulder by about an inch, 1 failed totally and had to be re chipped as she was due to go overseas a few days later and the last one I kept I've just checked as I wanted to get her a passport and her chip was up her neck near her ear! I asked the company I get my chips from about this as I was very concerned that their age was a contributing factor, I was told that a)the chips might not have moved as far as it seemed as the scanner scans an area the size of a match box (pluasable for the 3 over the left shoulder) b) the chipper may have angled the gun to the left when they were chipped c) did the failed chip really fail? Scanned with 2 different scanners and no trace of a number yet it was ok 6 wks previous, might have been poss the vet still had the number on scanner from previous dog.

I was reassured by other breeders who hadn't experienced these problems as I'd trained to chip so that I could do my puppies before they left me, I have chipped a couple of 8wk old pups and their chip position is fine when checked last week.

I have just completed the chipping course / qualification. The reasons for taking the training was to ensure all my puppies are done before going to the new homes, although all new puppy owners are carefully vetted and are required to sign a declaration that they will contact me in case of a problem and if required it will come back to me (to this date I have only had one puppy returned - although he was 5yr old at the time and the owner and I worked together and a new home was found for him) if the dog does ever goes into rescue or is rehomed I am able to 'keep track' of his/her registered location at all times, this gives me piece of mind would it not do the same for you?
