A friend has contacted me as her bitch is "not right" On Monday the vet prescribed Galastop, Noroclav and Prednicare (because she was itching ). She is asking the following questions that I don't know the answers to so I am asking here:
Is it normal for the fluid build up behind the nipples to appear to be a blue colour?
She has no discharge at all and the fluid build up changed colour after she started on the medicines. She did have very sore nipples, but they are much better now.
Is it normal for a bitch to have a phantom only a matter of 7 days after finishing her season?
I am worried about the *blue* but also, she refused to eat yesterday morning and this morning only ate about 1/3 of her food, then proceeded to try and bury the rest! She is still eating the two chicken wings that she has every day.
The vet told me she would eat ravenously and drink gallons. She is doing neither.
She is very subdued in herself and is sleeping a lot. Her temperature is normal.
Her owner is trying to distract her with work etc but this did not have much effect
I will contact her owner with any comments/questions you may have and hope someone can help.

My younger springer bitch is just getting over a phantom. I don't know all the answers but her nipple area was blue and she was off her food whilst she was taking the galastop. When I thoroughly read the instruction sheet it did say they could have anorexia. Once her course was finished she went back to eating ravenously. I think it made her feel sick - she was sick for the first day but it absolutely back to normal now.

Hi, i know its hard but dont be to concerned, its just the side effects, plenty of bitches have phantom pregnencies, it is sometimes a chemical imbalance or her hormons are a little out of wack, dont be to worried with every thing but if you feel she is loosing heaps of weight or isnt drinking water and becoming dehydrated get to your vet for help
