I have a lively 18 month old male Jack Russell and until recently he was happily housetrained, with one or two accidents that could be explained. However, recently, he has taken to peeing (and the other) in the back alleyway of our house, which he has access to at night and in the morning whilst we all sleep. The only other place he does this sort of thing is in either of the bathrooms in the house. At least he has the right room, I suppose. Can anybody help? I don't know a) why he should start this behaviour again, and b) how to stop it? Can dogs use litter trays?!

Think he has not learned where it is ok to pee and where it is not, it would also seem that his peeing in the bathroom my be his way of trying to establish himself as more important than he is. Would go back to praising him when he goes in the correct place and also do some putting him in his place type excercises. Ignore him unless you have called him and only touch him or give attention if he has responded to an instruction from you. He thinks it is his right to pee where he likes and you need to make sure now that you point out to him that you decide that and not him. Good luck, but you will be suprised how a few days of being ingnored will sort things out.
