does anyone have any information about how old a labrador 'dog' should be to start breeding, i have a 'pup' of eleven months, is he to young? and if so, could you give the ideal age for him to start.

He can't have his hips scored until after he's a year old Mr French, so certainly after that.
The labrador people will be around shortly, to help you further I'm sure.

Need to get the Hips, Elbows and eyes tested before you think of using him. I take it you wish to use him on your own stock so the bitches you are going to use him on should be tested too. Both dogs and bitches should have eyes clear of problems, sound elbows and hips with in the breed average. The dog should be old enouth to have had the tests done and the results returned to you. The bitches should be adult, at least 18 months. Also remember that just because you own a dog he may not be the best match for the bitches you are thinking of using him on and you may find you get a much better result by using someone elses dog.
