Hello,
My dog is:
German Shepard, AKC
about 100 lbs
I was told by my vet that my dog was a little hefty so I started biking with him. Well in the process I noticed that he was limping very badly. I took a look at his paw and found he tore it. Its hanging by a flap and the tear is about an inch long. I immeadiately ran to the Grocery store to get him gauze, bandages, and pain free anethestic. I am going to take him to the vet tomorrow (thank goodness I have pet insurance :-) ). Is there anything else I should do tonight to help ease his pain. Perhaps some asprin?
Any help would help.
Thanks,
Joshua Z.

Hi, i wouldn't be to worried about it, put some iodine on the wound and try and keep it clean, dogs pads get hurt quite often
my male dog because hes so active he always has cuts and things on him so i dab some iodine on.

Hi you have done all that you can well done just keep it clean and covered jackie
Hi,
My dogs sometimes have a good run at the local market place, which is concrete underfoot, which does give them sore pads - luckily they heal pretty quick, but the vet told me to just bath it with a solution of salt water.

I would keep him quiet with no exersise at all, bathe in salty water as suggested and bandage if he will keep it on. I find a small childs sock over the dressing wound round with micropre tape may keep a bandage on and pop a small plastic food bag over the top when he goes out on the lead for a pee /poo if the ground is wet. Change the dressing twice a day if he wears one. Hyper cal cream (from chemists) will help if the vet hasn't given you a cream/ointment to use.
