Can anyone recommend a book that teaches the basics about showing, one that explains how the different shows and classes work, how to qualify for Crufts etc. Nothing too technical please, I have very little experience of the show world
Thanks, Hayley

there are books available but as rules change all the time the best way is to attened a ringcraft and chat to people, get into showing and pick it up as you go along.

There's a new book, called 'From beginners to winners' (I think!) by Robert Killick. It's quite good.

Yes that is a good book and there are others available, but as the rules can & do change from time to time so there is nothing like getting in there and doing it to find out what is going on.
To qualify for Crufts at the moment in most breeds you need to win a 1st, 2nd or 3rd at a Championship Show in a breed class in Minor Puppy, Puppy, Junior, Post Grad, Limit or Open. There are exceptions and a few other ways to qualify also if your dog has a stud book number it is qualified for life. OK I know whats a studbook number?
Yeah, what is a studbook number? :D We are more than likely going to get a boy, but were not planning to use him as a stud - although the breed has a small gene pool, so if he was exceptiona we may ahave to consider it.
I will look late to see if Amazon sell Robert Killicks book - he always seems to make sense in Dog World
Thanks, Hayley

Hi Hayley
I have just bought two showing books, though I haven't read them yet, just had a quick flick through, they both seem to have a wealth of info in them.
1, All about showing dogs - David Cavill
2, Show training for you and your dog - Juliette Cunliffe
The first out of the two has more info about the actual show rather than the training side of things.
Hope this helps
Alison
