I am looking for a blue female weimaraner as a pet and companion to our other weim.
I know that they are rare .
She will not be shown or breed from, she will be neutered.
Any help would be much appreciated.
hayley.reeve@orange.net
I don't know of any blue weimaraners in this country (UK). They are more common in America. They can't be registered with the KC anyway so you wouldn't be able to show and breeding would be pointless IMO. :-)
Just out of interest, if you already have 1 weimaraner of the *correct* colour i.e. silver grey, why look for a blue ? :-)
Good Luck with your search.

I just had a search for blue weims as I hadnt seen them before, I think they are beautiful. Why do you think breeding would be pointless?
I think they look stunning. What would be wrong in looking for a blue, even if she does already have a silver?

Steph, if a blue can't be registered with the KC, nor could any of its puppies! That's assuming that you could find a stud-dog owner or bitch owner willing to let their animal sire/produce an unregisterable litter. They would hardly be reputable.

hi JG - I agree...but the guest put that they don't want to breed or show - and will be neutering the dog....
edit: i just did a search and they look like a lickle Willis! (blue dane)

Yeah I know, Chloe, but Steph wanted to know why breeding would be pointless.
:)
Have you ever seen a photo of a blue-spotted dal?

good point - well made :D
nope - is there such a thing? I've seen a lemon...

Chloe, there are photos of loads of wierd colours on the Dalmatian Telegraph site - even brindle spots! I've never seen even a lemon in real life (people often confuse those with oranges, which doesn't help)....
But back to the Weim - the blue is certainly very attractive (to a non-Weim afficianado!), more so IMO than the more common (and accepted) mouse-colour that I've seen so often. In fact, the true silver-grey seems to be quite rare.......

Now here's my ignorance for you - I though dalmatians only came in black or liver spot.
(Or are there 101 varieties? :D)
Julia

At the last count there are (in decreasing order of numbers) black, liver, lemon, orange, tri, (then the really obscure) blue, and brindle....I think that's all. Apparently there have been some long-coats as well, but whether they are purebred.......

desirable colours are still only black [$ liver though- is that still correct? can't see that changing!! ;)

No, thank heavens, only black and liver are desirable - long may it last! The breed has enough problem breeders without adding those who try to 'specialise' in 'rare' colours.
This
site might be of interest to the curious...

you remember the thread on miniature dallies - was that ever proven not to be a hoax?

There's some on the site above - it seems certain that they are crosses, probably with either fox-terriers or even IGs.

It doesn't bear thinking about....

Hi
But, this guest might be in the USA, and if that is the case, then it would appear as though they are a recognised breed.
What I was saying was that they look stunning and gorgeous. And the guest said that they didnt want to breed from it. I can see exactly why they might want one. I dont see what is so wrong in that. White boxers arent seen as standard in the boxer breed, but some people still want them.
Anyway, if this person is in the US then anything we say will be irrelevent anyway cos in obviously they can get them there..and good for them.

As far as I am aware we only have a couple of pet blue Weimaraners in the uk. The colour stated in the breed standard for the uk is silver grey. The blue is not recognised.
However in America they do have blue Weimaraners. I understand that the main kennel that breeds them are puppy farmers and a lot of the dogs were taken away due to bad care.
Of course several blues may be bred with in America by great breeders so what you should do is contact your breeds club in America and ask them all about the Blue Weimaraner. As I am sure their is a lot more to buying one that just, "I want a blue puppy".
Weimaraners should have health tests like other breeds, such as hip scoring.
If you want further information on Weimaraners then contact the Uk Breed Clubs.
The Weimaraner Club of Great Britain,
The Weimaraner Association,
N.E.W.S.
The Scottish Weimaraner Club
All to be found on guided search under Weimaraners.
Good luck in finding the dog you want

You could in fact register a blue weimaraner with the KC; very few breeds have "non registerable" colours; and very few Weimaraners are truly "silver gray". The point is that a blue weimaraner is not the breed standard and thus not desirable by those who wish to retain it.

I've also just done a search and I can see why you'd want one, what a gorgeous looking dog. Good luck with your search.
