Hi Everyone,

I have an 11 week old Boxer pup called Lolly. She has been able to go out for walks since Friday and I have been taking her to the end of the road twice a day since then. The problem is she doesn't seem to enjoy her walks and is always much more enthusiastic on the way home than she is when we first go out. I would like her to look forward to going out but at the moment it is a hard to even get her to the end of the drive. What can I do to make her walks fun for her?

Libby didn't seem that keen on walks initially, even though we had done some lead training at home, it all seemed too much for her; plus cars going by, people on bikes, squirrels, other dogs................the big outside world can be very intimidating for a young pup. You could take one of her favourite toys along, but I'm sure it won't be long before she's dragging you out of the door! :D

Hi, Iknow a Yorkie like that. He hates his walks. I was taking hi for a walk one day and he just sat down in the middle of the street and wouldn't get up so I had to carry him home! He is very energetic in the garden though so he doesn't really need walks. Is Lolly active in the garden? Even if she was, a Yorkie is alot different from a Boxer! My sisters dog is medium sizeand gets scred any time a car passes. Maybe she is just scared of all the noises and everything? You could try walking with a treat in your hand and see if it works. As soon as you go out the door you could give her a treat an then half way through andthen just before you go back in. Then gradually cut down on the treats and just give her praise instead and then soon she wouldn't need either! I hope thishelps. from Ciara :D

Hi at 11 weeks why make it walk out side its only a baby give it time sit out front and let it see and hear new sounds before you start making it go for walks you would not expect a 6 months human baby to walk down the road its just the same, take your time be gentle take titbits with you, just dont rush it.
