Hi Its Brinny

I cannot log in on my computer at home as i havent got cookies??, But i think my bitch is finally in the early stages of labour, she is panting heavily, and whining, she has been slightly sick. But i still cant get her to settle in her box, if i go with her she will get in for 5 minutes but then wants to get out again Any Ideas??? PS i cant reply to any posts as i am on the visitors section so i hope i dont need any help later as i cant chat freely so fingers crossedx

Hi Brinny

Hope everything is going ok. Truffle hasn't started yet so we are still waiting.

A lot of bitches won't go into a whelping box whilst in early labour, they are so restless and want to move around rather than settle down. Once the first puppy is born and is put in the whelping box she will be happy to go in there with her. Mail me directly if you want to ask anything else and I would love to hear how you are getting on.

How's it going, Brinny?
You may find she leaps out of the box just before the first pup is born - mine did this, because she thought she was pooing and didn't want to do it in her bed! (Her expression of amazement, shock, horror, and finally delight when she saw what she had produced was hysterical!) I just picked up the pup and put in back in the box, and she was in there after it and cleaning it and settled down to whelping quite confidently.

Hi Brinny,
i take it this is your bitches first litter? take things carmly with her the more frustrated you are the more she is going to be if needed take her for a slow walk that may get things happening maybe give her a warm bowl of oat meal milk that seems to work with all my biches, let us know how you went if things dont settle down get to your vet, just in case shes having problems GOOD LUCK

She is confused and doesn't know what to do with herself. Just try and carry on doing chores or what you normally would and let her follow you around. Try to appear unconcerned and confident and re assuring without appearing worried!!!! Mine rarely have their first puppy actually in the box, but on the floor near it. have loads of vet beds/towels ready so if she insists on producing the first one somewhere outside the box, you can whip a towel under her as the puppy is born. Once its out of its bag and cord dealt with pop it in the box and the bitch will follow and almost certainly have the others in the box or very near the born puppy. if you do go to the vets when she is in labour take a pair of sterilised scissors, (to cut cords) kitchen roll, lots of towels, a box and hot water bottle for any puppies as she may well have some in the car!
