Help!
My 9 month old american cocker has a slight problem. She has taken a bit of a shine to my son in law! She has a habit of wetting herself when my son in law comes over to visit. She does not do this with anyone else. But the minute he comes into the house she runs over to greet him excitedly and promptly wets herself. We thought it was just excitement and know that bitches are prone to wetting themselves slightly from excitement. At first it was just a little dribble, but now it has got so bad that now she actually squats in front of him or as near to him as she can get and does a full blown wees unless we get her out into the garden as quickly as possible. He now has to got straight to the garden when he arrives so she can go too and wee on the grass otherwise she will do in the hallway on the carpet.

We cannot understand it . . . maybe its his aftershave!!! He doesnt do anything to excite her (never gets the chance) the minute he is inside the door she is all over him with excitement and gagging for a fuss. I know he is a good looking young man but this is a bit ridicuous. The same thing happens when we got to visit my daughter and son in law at their house. Sometimes he is still at work and although she is excited to see my daughter she does not wet herself. The minute he comes through the front door off she goes again!!
Maybe she has taken a fancy to him!!! She has been spayed by the way.
Any ideas?

Ask your son inlaw to ignore the dog when he comes in for a few mins. She will soon calm down, after she is calmer ask him to talk calmly and stroke her gently. If that doesnt work just get your son inlaw to ignore her and walk straight into the back yard, only after she has done a wee should he then say hello. BTW apparently puppies dont know they are weeing when its out of excitement. Most grow out of it. Mine still does it too.

I went to visit my auntie at the weekend and they have 13 week old retriever. As it was a family party my auntie stayed behind to say thanks to all the guests, she gave me the house key and me and my partner went back before her. The first thing we did was go straight over to meg and of course she weed everywhere. I told my auntie when she returned and she said she has been told to ignore meg when she first comes in the house, and then when she has calmed down to take her outside for a wee. I don't if this applies with older dogs but i would have thought it would have the sameoutcome.

Bad news I'm afraid - my bitch still does this with certain people and she is 21 months old!!!! Whether these people fuss her or not doesn't seem to matter, she is just extremely pleased to see them! I'm still hoping that someday she will grow out of it, although it is probably due to me not handling the situation correctly. Can't offer any advice I'm afraid, but am interested in what others have to offer.

No advice, just sympathy.

My 10-month old Cairn will wee every once in a while from excitement. She will actually squat and wee - she is so focused on the visitor that she forgets to go outside and I doubt even knows she needs to pee. I always take her outside as soon as I know visitors are arriving, which does cut down on the number of accidents.

My 1 year and 2 month old Yorkshire Terrier wees anytime anybody goes into the house! She didn't used to do it. It used to just be my sisters mongrel bitch but if my sisters dog jumped into a fire, my dog would jump into a fire...So now they both wee al over the carpets any time anybody goes into the room they are in. We keepthem in the kitchen when we go outso when we get back, one person goes into the kitchen, ignoring them completely and opens the back door into the garden. Then everybody greets them out there and they dont do it as much now. When they started weeing out of excitement in the garden, we praised them and now they are fine!
