I feed my puppy a mixture of Royal Canin and NatureDiet. I am going to start giving him a garlic tablet every other day to help with flea prevention and for general well-being. I've also read a bit about green-lipped mussel and how good it is for joint problems. My question is: can this be given as a preventative measure? If so, would it be suitable for a rapidly growing, 5 month old Golden Retriever?

Also, if anyone knows of any good websites for this sort of info, I would like to know the addresses.

TIA,

Sarah

Be very careful about supliments Sarah. Modern feeds are balanced and adding supliments can unbalance it. I worry about young puppies getting too much of something rather more than too little.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the reply, John. The way I look at it (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) there are the suppliments that are the same as what the food contains, eg. vitamins, calcium, etc. I wouldn't add these, as they would 'unbalance' the food. But the complete foods don't contain garlic or green lipped mussel, do they? I've heard a lot of people talk about the benefits of garlic, and the breeder recommended it.

John, do you add any suppliments to your older, adult dogs' food?

Thanks,

Sarah
