Hi,
Has anyone got any hints and tips on how to groom a 10 week old pup that will not stay still. He is a beardies so I have to do it. He won't stop trying to eat the combs and brushes. I have givne him something else to chew but he still goes for the brush! Also trying to do his undercarriage is a nightmare as he wriggles and squirms. I know he will grow out of it but is there any tips you can give to make it easier for me now?
Thanks
Sam x

With Dylan, I let him sniff the comb first so he knew what was touching him. Then I held a titbit in my fingers (so he took a few seconds to get it) and started to gently comb him. He was so distracted by the food that he didn't mind the grooming. I also talk to him the whole time I'm combing, telling him what a good boy he is, etc. Just do a little bit to start with, and use several bits of food!
Dylan now only needs a couple of bits of food (one for each side :) ), and lies on his side to be combed.

HTH,

Sarah

You can also try brushing him slowly and soothingly when he's lying asleep or dozing. If you do it calmly enough he should stay relaxed enough for you to get quite a bit done. Don't try to do too much at one time - one minute's calm grooming is better than 5 minutes struggle.
:)
