We are thinking of buying an oldtyme bulldog pup, please can you give me any information about this breed. I have been told that they are not K.C. registered, why?

Hi Redwood,
The Kennel Club doesn't recognise "Oldtyme bulldogs" as a pure breed, so they cannot be registered.

They can't be reconised because they are not thoroughbred but crosses, mongrels call it what you like, but they are not pure bred and therefore not able to be registered.

have you seen a picture of an old tyme bulldog??.

Is it the one that looks like a Boxer cross? (In one book called the "Olde English Bulldogge")

Sometimes called a Victorian Bulldog, you can always tell a cross breed when the photos shown of the so called breed look totaly different one from the other.

Hi, I haven't managed to find any info, photographs etc and am very interested in finding some fast. We were looking for a Bulldog pup but are slightly concerned by the breed's health problems. I saw an ad for the Oldtyme £700 and the breeder told me that they are not prone to the breathing problems etc. My son is very keen to go and see the pup but the lack of info is worrying. The breeder mentioned an Oldtyme dog club, but again I can't get any info. One of my main concerns is the Oldtymes temperment, we have a young grandson and 3 cats.

We can't tell much more, there is no such breed. They will be the produce of a bulldog and some other breeds, Stafords, Boxer or something like that. It may be a bit down the line and the pup you are thinking of may be the result of 2 x-breeds being mated together. There is nothing to stop a group of 2 people forming a club.

You may find the dog has good health or you may find it is suffering from all sorts of problems. There are plenty of this type of dog in rescue centers and it may be safer to get one from there as you would at least know what it looks like when grown and be able to assess the temperment.

For Photo look here http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/dorsetoldetymebulldogge.htm but there is know saying that you pup will look like this dog that looks like a Stafford with a big head.

Hi Redwood

Try www.moloss.com Cant do links but thats the address. You will find some more info on this site. All Bullys have good temps with other animals and kids if raised to be that way.
I wouldnt worry about them not being KC recognised, lots of good dogs are not recognised by the KCs of the world.
I dont know much about the old time bully or its health problems. You would have to speak to owners to find this out.

Hi

I have two bulldogs, it is true to some extent that they can experience breathing problems, especially in hot weather, but what dog isn-t sat panting and puffing in this heat. My youngest Gladis, runs around like she is a springer spaniel, whereas the older one Hilda is happier to trot along at her own pace. If you go onto google and do a search old tyme bulldogs there is a site that comes up that will give you more info.
