Topic Dog Boards / Health / Shivery dog, low temp?

Last night there was a rash on our GWPs tummy but looked like from the nettles as she had been in the long grass. This morning she is walking very 'carefully' and did not even run outside in her usual idiotic way. Her temp is 37.5 which seems low and she is shivery. However she has eaten her food and drank some milk . My daughter had applied some tea tree oil to the rash and this did smell strongly (now washed off) It is not a pure oil base but one that is safe to apply undiluted. I had wondered if there was a connection
She does not even want to walk out for a wee but I can find no obvious physical cause. She seems 'scared' to walk or it could be the shivery. Do you think it could be too much sun yesterday. She is too stupid to lie quietly in the garden and will insist on hunting the birds.
Thanks

Star it is good she is eating but if you think she is unwell then she should see a vet. Are you able to check the inside of the eyelids and the gums to make sure they are a nice pink colour. If you do this and they are pale, white or grey I would get her to the vet asap. If they are a good colour I would still take her but a little time could elaps. Really with sick dogs the owner is the best person to know and you must be concerened because you have taken the tempreture.

She is absolutely fine today. She improved throughout the day yesterday. I did some reserach on the internet and I think it might have been caused by licking the tea tree oil. There was a case where it was ingested in a young boy and caused temporary problems woth the nervous system. Thankfully she is her usual silly self today.(NO MORE TEA TREE FOR US!)
