What is the best way of getting my 6.5 month old dog to drop things out of his mouth? I can take things out with no problem but would like him to release on command.

You could do a swap maybe?

Offer a choccy drop or similar when he is carrying something in his mouth , give the command *LEAVE* just as he drops the item to take the treat

Thanks Melody, I'll try that.

ha ha it really makes me laugh reading posts about mini's, as
its like reading something about my own - aren't they all so mischevious!!!

Rufus almost chuckles when you tell him to drop or leave it..
he has a glint in his eye as if to say "yeah whatever" and then
legs it round the room beckening you to chase him!

I too will persevere but am not holding my breath :-)

Unbelievable, just as I am about to type a response, Oscar delves into my trouser pocket and picks out an unused plastic poo bag and then scarpers with it. The loudness of my "leave it" shocked him into a deep freeze, wouldn't drop it though even with a treat. He knows which one mummy is most interested in. Oh well, there's always a next time.
