I have a 10 week old Cavalier. The breeder was feeding her on an adult dog food for small dogs, but my vet advised me to put her on to puppy food. This was introduced gradually however she proceeded to eat less and less. Consequently I have put her back on to the Caesar with puppy mixer. Is it OK to keep her on this and may be supplement her diet with something else to make up for the lack of 'proper' puupy food. I've also tried dried complete puppy food but she wont eat that either. Sometimes she refuses meals completely. Is this normal? Otherwise she is happy and healthy.

Towel Hound went through a variety of dried puppy foods until we found one that she would more than pick at. Have you had her checked by a vet to make sure that there is no medical cause for her lack of appetite? If there isn't then it's a case of trial and error, until you find a food he/she likes. Our vet told us not to worry, she was healthy and he'd never known a dog starve itself to death! :)
If she likes tinned meat, why not try a canned puppy food and puppy mixer? Any reputable brand of either canned or dry food will give her all the nourishment she needs. If you're worried, why not supplement her food with puppy milk - powdered milk that you add water too. I'm sure it was the puppy milk that kept TH going through those early weeks.
TH is still a bit of a picky eater, but at 18 months she is a 30kilo, well muscled monster and as bright and happy a towel thief as ever lived. As with humans, I think some dogs just need less.
Good luck and I hope you find a food she likes.
