i'm FOREVER having to de-flea my pet Border (Flea Hotel) Collie every year in Summer and Autumn, We usually use the Shampoos and when really bad diluted Dettol as a rinse - if we can stand the smell of it

Strangely the fleas tend not to like the Boxers too much and they rarely have that many (must not like wading through all that dense short coat and must just prefer the shaggy longhaired collie as a moving-hotel) but i bath them all one at a time anyway.

I've also spray the house and the dog bedding, but as soon as we are rid along hop some more.
The grass is quite long around our house as we live in the edge of our village and there are lots of stray cats and things lurking about in it - Wild rabbits and such like. Also the people that had our house before us kept working greyhounds and lurchers penned at the bottom of the garden - i'm sure there must still be some eggs lying about down there.

Can anybody suggest alternative/better flea killing methods other than the ones i've mentioned as a new line of defence, and is Frontline (the one given as a tablet any good??)

Help :-)

I've heard that giving your dogs a garlic capsule everyday, is a natural flea deterrent :)

If you are a multiple dog (& cat) household then the Frontline spray works
out the most economical.
Program is probably the tablet that you are thinking of, which stops the fleas
reproducing but does not kill the actual fleas.
I too have heard the garlic method and you can also get a herbal shampoos
I think there's one called dyna-mite. Which is supposed to repel fleas and
other insects.

I Have been looking at a ultra sonic devise called Pest away. It does not only deter fleas but all sorts of small nasty creatures. Has any one bought one ! as it sounds fantastic but dont want to spend all that money on the product that does not work.
If Anyone has Bought one please could you tell me if it work!

I give garlic daily to my dogs and cats, haven't had a flea problem for yrs. I also use Stronghold spot on once a quarter to rid them of any parasites such as ear mites, fleas, intestinal and lung worms and of course mange mites. This is a recent change to my routine as I used to do panacur twice a yr and drontal twice a yr to ensure worm free dogs, I still use panacur on my pups mind.

Hi Jodie,

I use Frontline. It's easy to apply (he small vials of ointment you spot between the shouldler blades) and it works.

Buy a flea collar and put it in your vacuum cleaner bag - it kills the eggs that get hoovered up from carpets and furniture. If the eggs get picked up and you do not throw out the bag or clean out the cannister immediately they hatch and the fleas make there way out and onto your dogs.

We bought an ultrasonic flea comb, it works o.k. on the Dugue de bordeaux but anything with a longer coat they cannot cope with as the teeth are very short and the comb bows round.Your cannot get right to the skin

We had a TERRIBLE flea infestation a few years ago. They were so bad in the kennels that you could walk through and get covered in them! I tried everything imaginable and had almost decided to burn the kennels!
Then at the suggestion of someone, I bought a 20 lb. bag of Diazinon 5% granules and using a seed sower, spread it on my whole lawn and inside all the kennel area. NO MORE FLEAS! Now I do it yearly and we hardly if ever see a flea anymore!
