We went to the Wirral Show today - which is basically three big fields filled with displays , craft stalls and a funfair . It was absolutely boiling hot , noisy and jam packed with people .
I couldnt believe it when I saw two pups ( both with different owners ) being dragged around . They were tiny - one was a Staff and one was a boxer .
For one , the area was much too big of a walk for such a small pup - it was way too busy and the sun was absolutely scorching . The boxer pup was with a teenager and what looked to be her mum and dad , so surely they should have known better and the Staffy was with two lads aged about 20. Say no more !! :(
I worried all day about them . My partner kept telling me there was nothing I could do but I still worried for them :(
Why dont people have more sense ???

Wonder if they were related to the man I saw at about 14.30 hrs today - out with, I assume, his grandson on a pushbike, a nice big water bottle (for the man and his son - complete with straw for humans) and a middle aged black collie cross - walking on baking hot pavements!!!!!! It's been close to 30 degrees here today..........

The lovley Sal,you may well ask.
She has taken to attacking my butterfly bush, (the darned bush has never done her any harm, so I've no idea why she's decided it has to die ;) but there you go Staffords)
Apart from that she has adopted the hammock. The only move she makes for hours on end is when she hears the ice cream van or she wants a cup of tea. Then she barks at the gate, or at anyone who has thoughtlessly got themselves a cup of tea without asking her!
We don't go out in all this heat at least Sal doesn't walks early early morning and later evenings suit her better.
Spoilt you may say and the answer is; Yes I am by a brilliant stafford bitch, who's finally managed to train me into sharing my strawberry sundae ;) with her.
How's Gus? I'll see you at the Potteries next week. I'm getting nervous for you already. I'll bring some photo's of Sal. So you can see how she's grown.

Gus doesnt even bother going into the garden in this weather . Pops in and out but stays inside , flopped out on the sofa .
He new hobby is people watching :)
He loves to stand on his back legs with his front legs over the top of the sofa and watches everyone pass through the window with much wagging of tail :D And no he never copied it from me ;)

I have just got back from an open show in Cornwall where there were 3 young pups being walked around. One of the golden retriever pups could not have been more than 14 weeks old. They were there when the show opened at 9am and still there at 5.30pm for Best in show. Poor puppy. My own dogs really felt the heat today without little ones being subjected to it.

I took my pup out to the park for half an hour this evening, with the kids and hubby, and a bottle of water... for the pup - I squirted it in his mouth, he loved it :) Kids were not amused, and had to buy ice creams to make amends! :)

I think the best time to walk dogs in this weather is early morning, then laterr on in the evening. I have kept my garden door open all day but my 2 labs prefered to stay in doors. I have a kids pool I bought for them out there in case they fancied a dip.

32 degrees in the shade here today - and a woman and her Boxer pup were on the school field because it was her kids school sports day!

Unbelieveable....32 degrees here today, and still there were idiots walking down our lane with their dogs. What is up with these people?
Me and my gang were all sitting happily in the shade...with lots of water....buckets..for the dogs and a bottle for me!
Still, it drives me mad...after seeing the way my dogs are in this kind of heat (sleepy) it makes me wonder what exactly these people are thinking.
Another hot one tomorrow!!! Get the hoses out!
Take care

Solved the problem of Buddy not liking getting into hot car. As you all know there are days when you can't avoid taking the dog in the car. Yesterday because it was so hot and i had to take him with me i did the following.
Split the rear seat so one half was open creating alittle cave under the parcel shelve. Wrapped the ice blocks from the cool bag in a tea towel then laid them under his blanket in the make shift cave. Allowed hot air the escape then in jumped Buddy snuggled down in there for the journey which thankfully was'nt a long one. He certainly looked happier.
