my friend has bred from her german shepard cross labrador with a pure bred labrador. i first thought that there was nothing wrong with this but after reading a few of your other posts i gather that this cross breeding should never be done. is my friend wrong to be doing this? the pups are obviously not registered and they are sold for about £50 each. although some of you may not agree with cross breeding, i can tell you that the puppies and the bitch are of the best health and get the best care possible. they all go to loving homes, my friend makes sure of this. my point is, shouldnt people be more concerned about the thousands of puppy farmers out there that dont care in the slightest about the welfare of their dogs rather than someone who loves and cares for their dogs which they cross breed??!!?? surely this isnt the worst thing you could do?

Your friend's bitch is a cross between two breeds which both have a very bad record for Hip Dysplasia, but of course she won't have had any checks for hereditary disease. Any of the pups could be very badly affected, especially if she is mated to an animal whose health status is equally in doubt.

In my opinion, that's irresponsible breeding, however well she looks after the bitch and pups.

Hi Guest

I'm curious as to why your friend would purposely go out to breed from her x breed, when there are so many homeless dogs out there already. You say that your friend has ensured that they go to 'loving homes'. Will she be happy to take that same pup/dog back when it's 6, 12, 18 months old? Puppy farmers don't care about the pups immediate future or what happens to them in later months or years. A responsible breeder will.

JMHO, sorry if it seems harsh.
