My husband recently bought me a Rottweiler puppy for my birthday. We booked a holiday, way back, and I suddenly realised I would have to book kennels. I didn't really want to do this, if it was possible to take him with us, so I rang the holiday company who said yes they did take dogs, what was he? When I told them, I was told "sorry we don't take them, they're on the dangerous breeds list". I tried to explain that he would only be 6 months old, but to no avail. Can anyone please tell me if the holiday company were right and where I can find a link to this list.

Many thanks

They are not on the dangerous breeds list in the UK, however it sounds to me as if this is simply a case of their own company policy & to be honest I wouldnt give my business to a company with such a narrowminded attitude....book elsewhere I say! :)

Hi Sam

Thanks for that, I wasn't too sure, I also heard that if you take a Rottie out on the street it has to be muzzled but I've never seen one with a muzzle.

Unfortunatley, it look as though we won't be going on the holiday after all. We're moving soon, could even be the same week, but we're going to a totally new area and won't know anybody. The dog's no longer the problem, we also have a cat and a chinchilla.

Never mind, I certainly won't book with them again and will check whether my dog will be welcome before I book anything in the future.

No, Rotties don't need to be muzzled. There are only 4 breeds that do: the Pitbull terrier, the Japanese Tosa, the Dogo Argentino and.......help - a senior moment - what's the last?

There are plenty places you can take your Rottie. If you get one of the weekly newspaper (Our Dogs or Dog World) from your newsagents there are holiday cottages and guests houses listed there. Hope you have lots of fun with your Rottie like I do with my seven! Unfortunately Ive not had a holiday for 19 years so we are saving up for a Caravan next year and will invade the dog shows!!

I wouldn't go on holiday with any company as narrow minded as that.
Don't know where you are but their is a holiday cottage company in Wales and they will take rotti's. A lot of holiday companies do not take rotti's.
I am afraid also that you will probably find that alot of boarding kennels don't take rottweilers or at least they don't in Devon.
We went on holiday to a hotel near Newquay one christmas which had been booked for a year and they are well known for having more doggy guests than human ones! We rang and said we had a brought a rotti and was that OK. It was. We turned up and within a few hours it became clear that one of the guests was not happy about Tiegan being there. The hotel owner told her that she was entitled to her opinion but that a 6 mth old rotti was not dangerous. The unhappy guest left the following morning (christmas day), she told the hotel owner either the dog left or she would. The owner gave her her bill and bid her farewell. We stayed for the rest of the week and had a lovely time.

Hi all
Thanks for your replies, they were very helpful! Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of people out there have the same attitude towards Rottis, some of my own family included. When I told my sisyer that I'd bought Beau, she said she wouldn't come to visit because she's terrified of them (I wouldn't mind, she hasn't visited me for 10 years anyway). I've never come accross a nasty one though. I know there were some scare stories years back, but haven't there been about most breeds?

My Dad used to have a Collie and he was evil and the woman who bred Beau had a dog from a previous litter, the Mum and 3 Yorkies. She actually told me the Yorkies were more vicious than the Rottis.

As for the holiday, as I said before, it looks like it's off for this year, but I will be more selective in future. Could somebody please tell me, though, how I stand with taking him to France?

Thanks again to everyone who replied.
