My lab has been moulting heavily but also now scratching and has red bald patches. No fleas or similar. I'm trying oil of evening primrose shampoo, anyone else tried this and how did they find it?

Hi Dudley, I`ve had a similar prob with a couple of my dogs, frustrating isn`t it? Haven`t tried the oep but used the Eucalyptus shampoo from the link below, with excellent resulsts. :) The shampoo isn`t on the web pages but if you give them a ring they will tell you about it

http://www.wykken.co.uk/index.htm

They added some gingilly oil to my dogs shampoo, which is a natural sunblock & also anti-parasitic.
Hope the oep works but if it doesn`t you can give the eucalyptus a try.

Christine, Spain.

If you want OEP shampoo try Groomers

they are based in Newbury, Berks.

I've got the groomers version. So far today, no scratching and the moulting is lighter, for example, I haven't had to sweep the kitchen floor every hour!!!!
Redness has gone. So far - so good. I also got the OEP supplement which is going in her food.

Another shampoo I have recently tried and it seems to have helped Mia bring her coat in (It's so beautifully soft & shiny I'm thinking of using it myself!) is Quistel The website is www.quistel.co.uk

You have to leave the shampoo on for at least 7 minutes but I think the results speak for themselves. I have also put her on Flax Oil (Better than EPO) and Royal Jelly capsules. She hasn't got the feathering yet but the body coat is excellent.

I've got the groomers evening primrose shampoo. Its really good and smells nice too. I also give my labs some corn oil in their food every day. Just a dessert spoon full and i'm sure it makes a difference, their coats are really shiny. One of the labs used to suffer a little bit of eczema, since starting the corn oil it seems to have eased. Mind you they have been on it about 5 years now. I give my beagle cod liver oil and that seems to work aswell.
