My black lab Sasha is on Day 5 of her 2nd season.....my hubby and I are keen to breed her from her next season, but I want to gain as much knowledge about the subject in the next 6 months so I know we are doing the right thing for Sasha.

I know they need thorough checks at the vets for possible health problems and intend to discuss this when Sasha has her booster injection.

I would like to ask some advice - that saying all is well - what days in her season is Sasha likely to be most fertile?

I have tried surfing the net but not come up with the answer yet.

Hi Angie, don't know what you've already done but:-
1. Hip scoring and eye testing
2. Buy Book of the Bitch
3. Start looking at stud dogs, again with hip and eyes tested, and ask about temperament
4. Day 12 onwards is fertile time, but study Book of the Bitch
5. Keep your bitch in peak condition ready for the mating
6. Talk to lab breeders, read books, look on this site, and good luck.
