Well done Gibbsy. My pup got puppy group 2, I wasnt there, but am still DELIGHTED:) :)
Unfortunatley firends of mine with French bulldogs had a bit of a rough time, one of them tripped on a bit of rough ground and put her hip out - had to be rushed to hospital, and her partner was badly bitten by a loose dog while walking the Frenchis - not one of their favourite shows, then.

bye
Gwen

Got shortlisted, but couldn't expect to so as wel as last year where she was second in the Group to the eventual BIS!

All being well this will be her last show until Crufts next year, as managed to get her mated on Monday, after she had refused one dog, and reluctantly agreed to have the second on probably her last fertile day (according to the premate tests, 4 days after ovulation) the next day she didn't want to know again!

Wish me luck, as her next season will be after her fourth birthday, and starting to worry about her never having pups!

This was my second attempt at getting her mated. Last time it was over Christmas week, and the maiden dog tried hard from day 15 to 18 and I got slip matings whilst holding her.

This time the same dog was much more able, and was able to come back from the point of no return after she pulled away from him, he tried hard, but I was determined to only give him a chance until the third day after ovulation at which time I took her to our Imported boy who has had two bitches. she still played up for him, but the next day they managed to get her mated as he wasn't put off by all the attendants helping, which did make the other boy a tad less forceful than he was being on his own (but unfortunately she is so strong and he just couldn't hold her). She was very willing to mount the dog and her bedding, other bitches etc, but was not going to stand for them!!

I did try holding her still, but she would just roll over on Friday and Saturday. Sunday she was still the same with both dogs, but Monday she was willing to be persuaded with a bit of soothing talk and stroking from the Humans, and was flagging a little, they got a 20 minute tie, and she yelled throughout, but next day no way!

We do not agree with forced matings, so beyond a steadying hand and reassurance, there is nothing one can do. Of course in the USA they would have done Fresh AI two days after the premate said she was ovulating, and then allowed a natuarl mating afterwards.

Oh good luck with the (fingers crossed) pregnancy. I know what it's like to have a lovely dog who you try for so long to get a pup from. My dog is a male and he's 6 years old in September and did quite a lot of winning until he had a sever ear problem which, to me anyway, affected his movement!! At long last he's become a daddy and this one has survived, she's just over 6 weeks. Can't be too optimistic yet as she's still young and you never know with Pom's.
