Do you know if poodles can get infected anal glands? My male standard keeps dropping fishy goo on the furniture almost daily. When I last showered him I checked them and they were empty. So he seems to be emptying them but not when he is out, instead when he is sitting down in the house. He is regular (twice a day) and has free access to the garden when not out on walks. My vet checked them and said they were empty too.

Yuk :( Any breed of dog can get infected anal glands. A fishy smell can be quite normal though and not necessarily indicative of infection. Glands can express when a dog gets a fright or even just barking can cause them to discharge - it's not always just when they go to the toilet.
Sometimes, however, if the glands do get infected they can perforate and so the fluid which builds up in them can drain inwards. As your vet has already checked them out though I wouldn't have thought this would be the case for your dog. Are you certain that it is his anal glands causing the problem and not discharge from his penis?

Hes neutered. But he leaves the little globule when he's been barking usually. The vet showed me how to express them which I do once a fortnight in the shower and have had no further problems. Except the wounded expression and sulks I get afterwards.
