hi my bitch finished whelping last night well the last pup was born at 3am and after a couple of hours sorting her and pups out and establishing labour was over or so i thought slept next to her box on the settee however i have just got up again to check them and discovered a new born away from the rest of them that had just been born she is very skinny and ribby and a lot smaller than the rest she was cold when i picked her up and she seems to be gasping for breath i am slowly warming her up with a towel and will soon put her under a heat lamp when she's gradually warmed a bit any advice would be apprieciated thanks sorry for rambling but she's in my arms at the moment so its hard to type.

Get her to suckle as much as possible, keep her warm by her mum, and give her a good rub with the towel... try and put her on a good full teat (one thats flowing well) and keep putting her on it.

Hope she's ok - keep us informed :)

Hi there

Is she suckling properly? Watch to see if there is any milk coming back down her nose. If you can open her mouth very gently and check the roof as she might have a cleft pallate.

If the bitch is actively pushing her away there might be something wrong with her. I assume that you will be getting the vet to check over the bitch and pups in the first 24 hours?
