Does anyone know of good makers of large walk in style dog kennels in the uk. We are due to move house and are buying new kennels for our dogs. Anyone who has tested/used certain makes and found them to be fantastic. The net searches are becoming a nightmare!
Thank you

Don't know if this helps, but we went through the same thing looking at different kennel makes...in the end we made our own...we bought a large shed 13 x 10....and divided it into three kennels each with their own raised bed and plenty of room fro the dogs to move around in with a small corridor so it is a walk in kennel, the end kennel also has a sliding door so the dog in the end can come and go into the run (we did this so that each dog gets a turn in the large run when we are out and they are not all out together).
We insulated and boarded up the inside ready for the winter and are just about to put in lighting, a extra heater and fans so all weathers are catered for. As they were all used to being in the house we have carpeted and curtain the kennels and they are home form home now and the dogs love it.
We built our own so we could get the right size kennel for our dogs.

I am going to be making a kennel for our 3 just to use when i am out in the garden so they can have some fresh air, not quite sure what we are going to do yet but probably similar to what you have done, to buy them from a company they are so expensive.

From start to finish, including the concrete base, shed, all the wood, boarding, insulating materials, wire panels, nails screws etc, the total cost has come to £2,500. The quotes we got for purpose built kennels were from £5,000 up!!!!
My husband and his mates and some help from me (supervisor/ tea/beer lady) did all the work, at a cost of 3 curries and lots of beers.

HI there,

I have just in the last 6 months done mine.

We got a shed company that builds quality sheds, ( nothing like the DIY store ones ) to build one to our specification, they took the same price as the would had it only been a shed but added 2 windows, 2 stable doors etc.

My husband did the concrete base, drainage etc himself, we bought Mesh panels from Kinstown who had a very good service.

And we got corigated heavy duty plastic roofing.

I think for the run and kennel, ( 12 x 12 ft kennel ) 2 runs from it with doors to each side we were about £1500-£1700

I am really pleased with mine, The kennels side is so nice I felt like using it for a sun house :-)

If you want a picture I can send you one.

We're just about to have new kennels....our old ones are out-buildings that we managed to convert.
We saw some 'Kennel' people at crufts, but have unfortunately lost their info.
They were selling 2 door crates/cages at a very reasonable prices (£70) for large breeds, and we talked about kennels....

Does anybody know who they are? website/phone number?

Thanks,

Lisa (Safftash)

I did mine myself - bought quality 6x4 shed, and then altered it to what I wanted.
Got plastic coated wire fencing mesh (B&Q £34 for 10 metres)
3x2 timber - lots of for run and roof frame
corrugated roofing also from B&Q - bitmumin based (brilliant)
Base - concrete slabs (in hinsight would have prefered poured concrete floor)

All in about £500 plus my effort

or try www.simplysummerhouses.co.uk which I think is where I will get my next one from when I move

They will alter them to a certain extent.

Or do a search on the internet there are loads available at a lot less than the price that people are quoting - all you need to be able to do is put it together and get your base laid - neither of which is remotely difficult if you have full use of all your limbs

I appricate what you are saying but I guess it depends on size of Kennel and run you want and how long you want it to last.

I had quotes from I think every internet company possible.

My hubby is a joiner and he did everything apart from the actual Shed/kennel 10 x 10 which at £550 alone he could not have bought the wood and built that kind of quality for that cost so that is why we bought it. Ours has 2 windows, 2 dog flaps. 2 doors. The concrete base which you could not do for less that £150-£200 if you do it properly ( I think it is about 8 inches thick , a hidden soak away drain with proper dog frendly grills from both runs Galvinised mesh panels were only about £35 each ( I think we have 11 and 2 with doors) but if you want a decent size run. ( I only have westies so I would think any bigger type dogs would need bigger than what I have) our runs are 3 metres x 2 and there is 2 runs both connect to the kennel and have seperate flaps which then go into seperate dog boxes/beds inside.

Not disputing with anyone but it is important for anyone thinking about it to make sure that the know what they want, how much they want to spend. You will not get the Hilton for a few hundred pounds so make sure you know what you want. If you want one pleasing to the eye you need to think it all out.

Kelly Pics on there way..
